Vaping at Festivals

If you are one of the thousands of lucky people with a ticket to a hot festival this summer, there are a few things you should think about when you pack your vape gear.

Know the rules

All the summer festivals, big and small, will probably allow vaping. Some might have designated smoking and vaping sections, while others will allow it wherever the mood takes you. You should make sure you check out the festival vaping rules in advance to see what your festival allows. If you are headed to a festival with vape-zones, you should mark these on a map asap so you don’t have to spend ages trawling around thinking ‘where can I vape?’ when you’re there and should be enjoying the music!

As well as knowing the festival vaping rules, you’ll need to think about e-liquids. A lot of festivals will not allow glass to be taken in for health and safety reasons, and this may well extend to your e-liquid bottles. If your favourite e-liquid comes in a glass container, make sure you transfer it to a small plastic bottle in advance, rather than getting to a festival and discovering that you have no e-liquid to vape with at the weekend!

Plan in advance

While there might be no vape laws against carrying your kit to the festival, it’s a good idea to think about what you pack, and how. Take plenty of e-liquid to see you through the festival, as you probably won’t be able to get any there. A spare tank might be a good idea too, in case of emergency.

Most of the bigger festivals will have somewhere you can plug in USB devices to charge them, which most people will use for their phones. In theory, this means that you might be able to charge your USB vape kit there too – but it’s worth thinking of alternatives. Just imagining the long queues for the charging stations, coupled with the fact that you might miss bands playing while you wait, and it’s reason enough to carry a spare battery or two! We recommend you monitor how quickly you go through your vape charge normally, and then take extra batteries with you to cover the weekend or few days that you will be at the festival. Pop your cable in too, in the off-chance that you can charge, but don’t rely on it.

Summer music festivals can be hot and (particularly when it’s rainy), dirty. If your vape kit sits in a tent all day it may well overheat – remember that vape kits and e-liquids love cool, dark places. Taking a cool bag with a couple of plastic ice-packs will keep things cold for a couple of days, even in the warmest of tents. You could even invest in a tent made for hot weather, or look at getting reflective material for the outside of the tent, to keep the interior cool.

You should also think about carrying a little cleaning kit for your vape. If nothing else, it’s a good idea to pack some kitchen towel to soak up any excess e-liquid in your tank between vapes, so you can be sure of a good flavour to your vape. It’s also worth thinking about what might happen if you drop your vape while you’re outside in a muddy field – cotton buds, kitchen towel and water should help!

Some people even prefer to switch to disposable e-cigarettes for festivals, so that they don’t need to worry about charging, e-liquids, cleaning or storage!

Keep it safe

When you know the festival vaping rules, it might be tempting to carry your vape kit around with you all the time so you can go to designated areas or hang out with other vapers that you meet.

If you do carry your kit, there’s a risk that it could take a few knocks in a gig, though, so it’s worth investing in a hard case to keep it protected.

Regardless of vaping laws or festival vaping rules, it’s also a good idea to think about how you vape. You’ll probably find other vapers there to chat to, and if you are at a festival with a designated vape space you’ll not need to worry about where to vape. If not, though, bear in mind that some people may find cloud chasing or big vapour trails annoying in such a busy public space, and may overreact. A little consideration will keep things safe for you, and leave you free to enjoy vaping.

With all that in mind, the only thing you need to worry about it what summer e-liquids flavours to pack!
