A Beginner's Guide to Prefilled Vape Pods: A 5-Minute Quick Start Guide

December 16, 2025

Got a Prefilled Pod kit? This is your simple quick-start guide for a perfect first puff.

So, you've just got your first prefilled pod kit. Congratulations! You've chosen the simplest, most convenient way to vape. This guide is your "owner's manual" to get you from opening the box to taking your first perfect puff in under five minutes. Although prefilled pod kits are designed to be simple to use, taking a few moments to prepare your device correctly can help you get the best flavour and performance from your first pod.

Prefilled kits are fantastic because they remove all the maintenance. There are no messy refills or complicated coil changes. But that doesn't mean you can just click and go. Modern pods have freshness seals and different setup steps. We’ll cover the single most important step new users miss—the one that prevents a new pod from tasting burnt. We'll also cover the different setup types, from standard pods to 4-in-1 kits, so you know exactly what to do with your specific device.

Key Takeaways

  • A prefilled kit has two parts: a rechargeable battery (the device) and a sealed e-liquid pod (the flavour).
  • The Golden Rule: You must activate your pod and wait 5-10 minutes for the liquid to soak the coil before vaping.
  • Most kits are "draw-activated," so you just inhale to vape—no buttons.
  • You cannot refill a prefilled pod; you simply replace it when it’s empty.

What’s in the Box? The Two Components

Your new kit consists of two parts.

The Device (The Battery): This is the main body of the kit, which you will keep and recharge. It houses the battery and the LED indicator light. Almost all modern devices use a USB-C port for fast, convenient charging.

The Pod (The Flavour): This is the disposable part that contains the e-liquid and the heating element (the coil). It comes completely sealed. When it’s empty, you simply recycle or dispose of the pod and click in a new one.

How to Use Your Kit: A 5-Minute Quick Start

Follow these simple steps for a perfect setup.

  • Step 1: Charge Your Device
Before you do anything else, plug your device in using a USB-C cable (often sold separately). The LED light will indicate that it's charging, and will usually turn green or switch off once it’s fully charged.
  • Step 2: Prepare Your Pod (The Most Important Step!)
This is the single most crucial step. You must "activate" your pod to let the e-liquid soak into the coil. Do not skip this, or you will burn the coil and ruin the pod. The activation method depends on the type of kit you have (see the next section).
  • Step 3: Insert the Pod
Once your pod is activated, simply insert it into the top of the charged device. It will slide in easily and is often held in place by a secure magnetic connection.
  • Step 4: Wait! (This is The Golden Rule)
Do not vape yet. Set a timer for 5-10 minutes. This waiting period is called "priming." It allows the e-liquid to fully saturate the cotton coil inside the pod. Vaping too soon will cause a "dry hit," which burns the cotton and gives you a permanently burnt taste.
  • Step 5: Take Your First Puff
After waiting 5-10 minutes, your kit is ready. There are no buttons to press. Simply inhale on the mouthpiece as you would a traditional cigarette. This "draw-activation" will automatically heat the coil and produce vapour.

Prefilled pod kits are designed for a gentle inhale rather than a strong pull. Taking slower, steady draws allows the coil to heat the e-liquid evenly and helps maintain consistent flavour.

How to Prepare Your Pod (By Kit Type)

The "activation" step changes depending on your kit. Find your kit type below.

Standard 2ml Pods

Examples: Elf Bar 600 Prefilled Pod Kit, SKE Crystal Plus

How to Activate: These are the simplest. Activation is just about removing the covers. Look for peelable stickers (usually on the base) or small rubber/silicone stoppers (in the mouthpiece and on the base). Remove all of them to allow air and e-liquid to flow

These protective seals are added during manufacturing and transport to keep the pod fresh and prevent leaks. Before using your pod, check that all stickers, plugs and protective covers have been removed. Leaving these in place can block airflow or prevent the pod from connecting correctly with the device.

Remember: Even with these simple pods, you must still wait 5 minutes after inserting it.

"Big Puff" Reservoir Pods

Examples: Avomi CLIQ, SKE Crystal CL6000

How to Activate: These pods use a "freshness seal" to keep the e-liquid separate from the coil. To activate, you must firmly push the base of the pod upwards. You will often feel a 'click' as the seal breaks and the liquid floods the coil chamber.

Remember: This is where the Golden Rule is essential. After pushing the base, you must wait 5-10 minutes to let the coil soak.

Extra Note: This golden rule also applies to refillable pods, but we recommend allowing at least 10 minutes for the coil to saturate fully.

4-in-1 / Multi-Pods

Examples: Avomi FLIQ, Elf Bar 4-in-1

How to Activate: These require one extra step. You'll need to remove the top cap of the device to reveal the chamber. Insert your four pods (usually base-first) into the slots. Replace the top cap, and then twist the barrel of the device to select your first flavour.

Remember: Each pod is still a standard 2ml pod, so you should wait 5 minutes after inserting them before you take your first puff.

Conclusion

That's it! Prefilled pod kits are incredibly simple to use, and as long as you follow the Golden Rule (Activate, Wait, and then Vape), you'll have a perfect, flavourful experience every time.

If you have any other questions about your specific device or run into any trouble, our Customer Service team is always here to help.

What does the light on my vape mean?

The LED indicator light tells you the device's status. It will light up when you inhale, indicating it's working. It will flash when the battery is dead and needs recharging. On some devices, the colour of the light will change to show the remaining battery level (e.g., green for full, blue for medium, red for low).

How do I store my prefilled pods?

You should store your new, sealed pods in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once a pod is in your device, always try to store the device standing upright to keep the e-liquid level with the coil.

What nicotine strength are prefilled pods?

The vast majority of prefilled pods in the UK contain 2ml of 20mg (2%) nicotine salt e-liquid. This is the highest strength permitted and is ideal for providing satisfying nicotine relief with a smooth throat hit, similar to a disposable vape. Some brands may offer lower strengths.

How do I know when my prefilled pod is empty?

You will know the pod is empty when the vapour production stops or you notice a significant drop in flavour. Many pods are made with clear plastic so you can see the e-liquid level. Once it is empty, dispose of the pod and insert a new one.

What are prefilled vape pods?

"Prefilled pods" are the e-liquid cartridges used in a prefilled kit. They are also known as "closed-pod" systems because they come permanently sealed from the manufacturer, containing 2ml of e-liquid (usually 20mg nicotine salt) and a built-in coil. You cannot open or refill them.

How long do prefilled vape pods last?

A single 2ml prefilled pod contains approximately 600 puffs, which is about the same as a standard disposable vape. The total lifespan of your kit depends on its type; a 4-in-1 Kit can carry up to 2,400 puffs (4 x 600) at once, and a "Big Puff" kit like the SKE CL6000 can offer up to 6,000 puffs from its reservoir system.

Can you refill prefilled pods?

No. Prefilled pods are sealed for safety and convenience and are not designed to be opened. Attempting to do so can cause leaks and damage your device. If your goal is to use bottled e-liquid, you need a Refillable Pod Kit, which is designed for that purpose.

Why does my new pod taste burnt?

The answer is almost always the same: the coil was not fully saturated before you vaped. You either forgot to activate the pod (by pushing the base or removing the stickers) or you didn't wait the crucial 5-10 minutes after activation. This causes the coil to heat up dry cotton, which burns it instantly and permanently.

Why is my prefilled pod kit not producing vapour?

If your device is charged but not producing vapour, check that all protective stickers and silicone plugs have been removed from the pod. Make sure the pod is inserted correctly and that the device is switched on if your model requires activation.
