Easy tips for e-cigarette maintenance

Over time, your e-cigarette may stop working as well as it once did, with your vape tasting bad, batteries not lasting very long.

It’s easy to keep your e-cigarette working at its best with these simple maintenance tips.

Routine Cleaning

One of the most important – and easy – things you can do to make sure your e-cigarette is working properly is to keep it clean. If you don’t, in time your e-cigarette or vape pens will end up collecting dirt and nasty remains of e-liquid residue.

The clearomizer is especially important to keep clean, and regular maintenance will help to give your e-cigarette a longer life. If you don’t clean the clearomizer regularly, you might even find that your e-cigarette starts to taste unpleasant. It’s a good idea to wash the tank between flavour changes, so that you get to enjoy your vape properly.

Start by disassembling your unit according to the instructions, and removing the clearomizer from the battery pack. You can give the clearomizer a gentle blow at this point to remove most of the excess liquid in there. After this, fold up a piece of paper towel so it fits into the clearomizer, and soak up any liquid left inside. If your clearomizer seems particularly dirty, you can wash it with hot water and leave to dry for 24 hours before using again – but you should check the specific instructions with your e-cigarette before you do this.

You can also give your battery terminal a clean using a cotton bud, to make sure the batteries perform well.

Look After Liquids

Another easy way to make sure your vape pens and e-cigarettes are working well is to take care of the e-liquids that you put inside them – and to put liquid in properly.

Never overfill your e-cigarette with e-liquid, or you could end up flooding it or causing leakages. Only ever fill up to the printed line on your clearomizer.

You should also make sure you don’t let the e-liquid in your vape pen or e-cigarette run too low. If you do, you could burn out the clearomizer coil, and end up both making your new e-liquid taste horrible and the coil needing replaced more often than it should. Just make sure you’ve enough liquid to cover the coil of your clearomizer to avoid this happening.

Safe Storage

Storing your e-liquid in a cool, dark, dry place will also help them last longer.

Store your e-cigarette upright when you’re not using it, to help prevent leakage of any e-liquid inside the clearomizer. It’s also a good idea to keep your vape pen or e-cigarette away from water, direct sunlight, or high temperatures, as they can affect the battery pack.

Rather than carrying your e-cigarette in a pocket or throwing it into a bag, buy a lanyard or case that you can easily use to store it. Not only will this make it far less likely than you’ll break it by accidentally sitting on it or putting too much pressure on the item, but it will also help avoid dirt and fluff from getting into your clearomizer or battery pack.

Finally, you may find that you actually decrease the battery life over time if you charge it when it still has lots of power left. Wait until your battery lets you know that it needs recharged, then charge it fully. A battery with a reduced charge will stop your e-cigarette from working as well as it can.
